Some Must See Beaches in Guanacaste

When people think of Guanacaste, they imagine pristine white sand, deep blue sea, lush green rain forest; the Beaches of Guanacaste as the most beautiful of the Costa Rica thus it has become a number one destination for lovers of the sea and for those seeking a close contact with Mother Earth. Guanacaste’s beaches are surrounded by forests, and have great natural diversity. In many of them there are beautiful coral reefs, where you may dive and explore.

Bahia Salinas

Bahia Salinas is a remote beach close to the Nicaraguan border with scenic views and untouched sand, perfect for world class wind surfing and kite boarding with its constant winds. It is a relaxing place to experience rural Costa Rica and nature, and it can be a thrilling location for world-class wind surfing and kite boarding. It is located within 5 km of the Nicaraguan border, and gets some consistent, strong winds starting in November and continuing through April.

Playa Negra

With some of the most consistent waves and surf breaks in the region, Playa Negra is a very popular surfer beach in the northwestern region of Guanacaste. Playa Negra has been acclaimed as one of the most beautiful natural beaches in Costa Rica and a great place for surfing. It also has some of the most beautiful sun rises you will see in Costa Rica. Its location sits in close proximity to other popular beach breaks including “Little Hawaii” on Playa Avellanas, a short 10-minute drive away.

Playa Ocotal

Just south of Playa del Coco is Playa Ocotal, a prettier and quieter beach. Playa Ocotal is arguably Guanacaste’s best beach to snorkel from shore. The rock formations at either end of the beach have abundant aquatic life. The quaint village of Playa Ocotal is located a few minutes south of the popular beach town of Playas del Coco, where visitors can find numerous restaurants and nightlife options.

Playa Hermosa

Playa Hermosa Beach is located in Guanacaste, between Playas del Coco or El Coco Beach and the Gulf of Papagayo to the north. Playa Hermosa is a beautiful beach, with light brown sand and soft currents. This is an easy to find  but less crowded beach. Very beautiful and relaxing, sandy with small waves, Playa Hermosa is a serene, exotic beach surrounded by a calm bay, making it an ideal family getaway.

Playa Panama

Located within Culebra or Snake Bay in the scenic Gulf of Papagayo in the Gunacaste Province, Playa Panama (also known as Playa Chorotega) is one of the most attractive beaches in Guanacaste province. Panama Beach (Playa Panama) is located a short distance away from Playa Hermosa, on the southern point of Culebra Bay. Playa Panama has a range of activities for guests to enjoy, including scuba diving, sport fishing, and golfing at the Four Seasons golf course. The beach itself is dark-sand and borders a calm, crystalline section of the Pacific Ocean.
