Mariela Cruz, the Director of Studio Namasté in San Jose since 2001, started practicing at a very early age.  She is an Authorized Master Grade 2 Krishna Pattabhi Jois Ashtanga Yoga Institute. After practicing law for ten years he realized that his dharma was elsewhere, went to India and became enamored of Ashtanga Yoga and its master Sri K. Pattabhi Jois. Mariela is authorized by Guruji and Sharath to teach Ashtanga Yoga and is the first American, third Latin American to receive this honor.

Intro to Ashtanga Yoga

The Intro to Ashtanga emphasizes the basic principles of the practice, including philosophical foundation, breathing, bandhas and drishti.

Ashtanga Primary Series: Level 3

Also called “yoga therapy” or “Yoga Chikitsa”. Chikitsa or Chikitsha is a Bengali word meaning treatment.  Ashtanga Primary Series is a system of healing physically, mentally and emotionally.

YogaWorks Teacher Training 200 hours

The most prestigious and recognized teacher training with a history of over 20 years in the United States. Recognized by the Yoga Alliance. Two weeks in August and two in November each year, 200 hours of basic certification. All in Spanish.

Professional Program YogaWorks 300 hour

This is a 300 hour Yoga Teacher Training program for the graduates with 200 hours teacher training certificate. Available from September to April each year.

Teacher Training

 

Overview 300 hour

This program is only for graduates of the 200-Hour Yoga Alliance Program. This six-month program is designed to transform to 200-Hour graduate into a professional, working yoga teacher. Through a combination of a six-month apprenticeship with a mentor teacher, 14 weekend workshops, a weekly evening alternating series teaching philosophy and practice, a series pranayama, and to end project, trainees will refine their teaching skills, identify areas of expertise, and set the foundation for fully incorporating yoga into Their life path.

Apprenticeship

Through the apprenticeship program, trainees work closely with a senior teacher and build a consistent, one-on-one relationship and on-going dialogue with their mentor. Mentors in our 300-Hour Professional Program are senior teachers who each have Their Own specialty and unique areas of expertise, Providing you with a variety of Approaches to choose from.

Through your apprenticeship you will:

  • Develop a one-on-one relationship with your mentor, who will guide you Throughout The program and beyond.
  • Observe your mentor in action – instructing, sequencing, adjusting and inspiring.
  • Cultivate your teaching skills as you assist your mentor in class, honing your ability to see bodies, offer modifications and give hands-on adjustments.
  • Reinforce this learning process in small group meetings with your mentor, your opportunity to address questions and issues related to teaching yoga.

Professional Workshop Series

Each month you will Participate in weekend workshops to Further Develop your toolkit of skills. Workshops include:

  • Hands-on adjustments and modifications
  • Observing bodies
  • Injury assessment and management
  • Meditation, subtle body and tantra
  • Working with beginners, children, seniors and pregnant women
  • The business of yoga

In Addition, each week students will gather for a weeknight session and will engage in a discussion on philosophy or teachings of Yoga.
